What Does It Mean To Renew Your Mind

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Help me Lord to understand what it means to renew my mind and implement it in my life!

(Romans 12:2 ESV) '2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.''

Scripture Thought:

Do not be conformed to this world but it's the only thing I know! Well, time to learn something new. We need to first define the word 'conformed'. Conformed in this scripture means to behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards of this world. The world's ways do not line up with God's Word and how He wants us to live. Since you now have given your life to Christ you can no longer conform to the world's ways and what the world say's is acceptable. You are now called to a higher standard, the standard being the Word of God which is God's standard for how you live your life in this world.

To begin the transformation process you must renew your mind with the Word of God. This is the new information that will replace the old information which is not acceptable to God. The reason you renew your mind is to put new thoughts, ideas, and suggestions inside of you. This is why when you become Christian, you renew your mind with the Word of God. Simply put, you study and take in God's Word to put inside of you what God wants you to learn and act upon as you replace the old way of thinking.

My Thoughts:

As you take in the Word of God and start making the Word of God an active part of your life, the transformation process begins. Once it starts to become an active part of your life, you are actually transforming into the person God has called you to be. Remember, this is a process and not an overnight transformation. Most of us have to change our lives drastically to line up with God's Word and it will take time. The key to the transformation process is, whether you are really ready to give God your life and become the living sacrifice that He has called you to be. (Romans 12:1 NIV) 'Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.'

Challenge:

Seek God continually in your life. Seek to know Him and His Word better on a consistent basis because this will give you a better understanding of who He is as you develop a greater relationship with Him. Continue to read and pray, and ask for strength to live the lifestyle He has called you to live.

Prayer:

Ask your Heavenly Father to help you to understand His Word and give you the wisdom and understanding needed to act upon it.
