My God Will Deliver Me

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

My God will help me help to overcome the trials I am dealing with when I act out in love toward Him.

(Psalm 91:14-15) '14 Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.'

Scripture Thought:

This entire Psalm is in my top 5 chapters in the Bible. I love the protection and promises of the Lord in Psalms 91. Verses 14-15 talk about what God will do for people who hold fast to Him in love. The Lord says that He will deliver them and protect them because they know His name, or better yet, when people trust in His name, His character, and who He is, He will make sure to get them through their trials. All people will go through trials and tribulations in their lifetime. It is part of the human experience, and I don't care what walk of life you come from. Rich, poor, in the middle, so to speak, no one gets by without taking that trials and tribulations slap in the face here are there. With that being said, it is good to know that we have the Lord in the fight with us. Counseling us, comforting us, fighting for us, strengthening us, protecting us, and delivering us as we deal with our hardships.

Some question why God will not just take away all the pain and suffering from His people who love and cherish Him. Well, if I have learned anything about God, I know that God teaches us in this lifetime how to be obedient, to trust in Him, and to have faith in Him through the things in which we suffer. In the book of Hebrews 5:7-8, God even tells us that He taught Jesus obedience while He was here on Earth through suffering and hardship. Let's take a quick look at the verse in Hebrews: (Hebrews 5:7-8 ESV) '7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.' I recognize that if our Heavenly Father taught perfect Jesus obedience through suffering while He was here on Earth, He is going to teach us the exact same way.

To go through suffering in any shape or form has a way of creating memories and thoughts that you will remember for a lifetime. In our life, we will have all kinds of occasions that present us with all types of feelings and emotions. The emotions experienced through pain, hurt, and suffering have a way of cementing themselves on the inside of us. With that being said, we tend never to forget those who helped us, comforted us, and were there for us when we went through this season in our lives. God has a way of being there for us like no one else can, every minute of every day, and He even has the ability to inhabit our sleep. No one can be there like Him, and therefore He is the absolute greatest Comforter a person going through trials and tribulations can have. In (Pslams 27:10 NIV) '10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.' When we turn to God and put our absolute trust in Him, the Lord develops us and teaches us to become greater in the process as He is delivering us out of our troubles.

My Thoughts:

I have been reading this scripture since I was a teenage boy. At this time in my life, I needed God's protection more than anything. I was so lost, drowning in so much hurt and pain, that I could not see anything clearly in my life. I would remember praying, just asking the Lord to help me to be okay because it seemed like what I going through was going to kill me. Even worse, maybe I was going to do something terrible to the person who had caused me so much pain. Trying to find peace during this time was difficult in my life, but what I found was that I was not alone when I was going through all this trouble. I could not understand why the Lord didn't just remove the issue from my life when I was young, but now I know why. The Lord uses me to help people heal from their wounded past. Certain wounds will never heal on their own, and only with God can you find the peace, healing, and wholeness needed to overcome certain transactions that have taken place in your life.

Challenge:

Challenge yourself to pray and read God's Word on a daily basis. As you start to understand it, start acting out on what it says. Then you will truly see the blessing of the Word of God in your life.

Prayer:

Ask your Heavenly Father to help you to understand His Word and give you the wisdom and understanding needed to act upon it.
