Taste And See That The Lord Is Good!

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

How do I do that?

(Psalm 34:8 ESV) “8) Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!'

Scripture Thought:

In Psalm 34 King David (the attributed writer of this Psalm) encourages us to praise God in all circumstances and get to know Him better. It picks up in Psalms 34:8 where we are told to taste and see that the Lord is good. As a new Christian, I didn't quite understand what this meant, how can I taste God? It's not like I can see Him or put my natural hands on Him, and even if I could I am not sure that I would take a bite of Him because He is God. Scripture tells me God is spirit and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit in truth (John 4:23). As I continued to study I understood what this meant.

How we take in something from the Lord is to receive it in prayer and/or through His Word. As we read and pray, God speaks to us in a way that we can understand Him. As the writer of this Psalm, King David had been through so much in his life and as he walked with God from a young man to an old man, he wanted other people to know how good God really is. But David knew that a person would never get to experience this unless they actually tasted the goodness of the Lord. I will give you an example to understand this a little better. On my table at home is an apple. From where I am standing it looks like a big juicy red apple, full of vitamins and minerals. But I don't care how good that big juicy red apple looks unless I take it in it cannot do anything for me. I don't get its vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, I get nothing because I left it sitting on the table. To receive anything on the inside of you, you must first take it in.

My Thoughts:

This is a great scripture to help you understand and receive God's Word on the inside of you. You can have a Bible at home or on your phone but that is not going to put God's Word inside of you. You must read and pray, take it in to receive from it. The Bible does you no good sitting on your nightstand, it only is a blessing to you when you take it in and start to act upon its words.

Challenge:

Challenge yourself to pray and read God's Word on a daily basis. As you start to understand it, start acting out on what it says. Then you will truly see the blessing of the Word of God in your life.

Prayer:

Ask your Heavenly Father to help you to understand His Word and give you the wisdom and understanding needed to act upon it.
