The Lord does not want you to stress out; He wants you to trust in Him!
(Matthew 6:34 ESV) '34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.'
Scripture Thought:
This scripture is part of Jesus' famous sermon on the mound. Jesus already told the people and the disciples a few times not to worry about all the things the gentiles (non-Jewish people) worry about. He told the people that God absolutely knew of their needs and would provide for them. His request was that we first seek the Kingdom of God first and His righteousness, and then all of our needs would be provided for, as outlined in (Matthew 6:33).
He wanted the people to understand that today had enough issues of its own. No need to get ahead of yourself; take care of this day and face tomorrow once you get there. In (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV) '22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.' Jesus wanted the people to know that they could put their trust and hope in God. God is the very person who has their entire future in His hands. We as humans tend to worry about many things, especially things that we cannot change and that are out of our control. We also tend to worry a lot about future things (stuff that we don't even know will show up.) Jesus wanted us to understand if we can keep our focus on the present and trust in God enough to let Him guide and lead us, that we will be just fine.
My Thoughts:
I used to live in worry about what the future held for me as I kept my mind focused on the past. Somedays, I look back and don't even know how I survived other than God's mercy and grace in my life because I was a mess. I realize in all of this to keep my mind focused on the moment that I am currently in. There is nothing wrong with planning for the future; absolutely plan for it but don't spend time worrying about it. How will that serve you, in (1 Peter 5:7 ESV) 'casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.' Stressing out about something you don't even know will be an issue for you or not. Stress and anxiety have caused so many issues in my life that they made me literally sick. I finally came to the conclusion, Lord, I put my life and death in your hands because I am killing myself daily the way I am currently existing. Once I was finally able to put my trust in the Lord, my anxiety finally went away, and my stress levels (blood pressure) normalized. This was a process for me, but I finally got to the place where I needed to be with the Lord and was able to move forward in my life.
