God The Holy Spirit Helps Us In Our Weaknesses

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Did you know that God the Holy Spirit intercedes for us?

(Romans 20:6 ESV) '26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.'

(Romans 20:6 NLT) '26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.'

Scripture Thought:

This is one of those scriptures that a lot of folks kind of glance over as they are reading the Bible because it can be difficult to understand. But this verse can give us significant understanding if we pay close attention to it. Scripture is letting us know as children of God that God the Holy Spirit helps us in our moments of weakness. Even when we are trying to do what's right, we have the capability to fall short. Even as we pray, we are in communion with God, but we don't always know how to pray correctly or even what to really pray for, nor do we need to. The goal when we pray is to have a sincere heart and confession when we come before the Lord. A great example of this is in the gospel of Luke.

Scripture Example: (Luke 18:9-14 ESV) '9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Prayer in itself is not about saying the most perfect words; God knows exactly what we need before we even ask. What God the Holy Spirit does is intercede for us by involving Himself in our prayers to our Heavenly Father. God the Holy Spirit communicates perfectly with our Lord and Heavenly Father as He is also part of the Holy Trinity. Therefore when we pray and go before God, what we truly need from God is communicated on our behalf perfectly to Him by the power and direction of God the Holy Spirit. Yes, God hears us personally, but He also hears God the Holy Spirit interceding prayer for us.

My Thoughts:

With this being said, we must understand that God truly is covering and looking out for those of us who have made a choice to become His sons and daughters. Even in our lack of understanding, inefficiencies, and wisdom, God has made a way where we can commune with Him through God the Holy Spirit that helps us to become whole as sons and daughters. As God has given us power through God the Holy Spirit, He has also given us powerful prayer through God the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Challenge:

Challenge yourself to pray and read God's Word on a daily basis. As you understand more, start acting out on what it says. Then you will truly see the blessing of the Word of God in your life.

Prayer:

Ask your Heavenly Father to help you to understand His Word and give you the wisdom and understanding needed to act upon it.
