The Lord will help you to overcome them.
(1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV) “13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Scripture Thought:
Every one of us will face temptation in this lifetime. None of us who live in this world will escape it. It is part of the human condition. With that being said, there is a difference between a Christian and a not Christian when it comes to facing temptation. If you are a Christian, God promises to help you through your temptation. For non-Christians, you are on your own, and I sure hope your willpower is enough. This scripture is written for followers of Christ (Christians). It is telling us that God will not allow us to be tempted above what we can bear (take), for our Lord will make a way for us to overcome the temptation we are facing.
Scripture tells us in Romans 8:37 "that we are more than conquerors through Him (Jesus) that loved us." It simply means with the power of God working on the inside of you; nothing is impossible for you. Temptation is a common thing that all mankind will face in this world. The Bible even tells us that Jesus had to face and overcome temptation. We have a Lord and Savior that is familiar with temptation, and He will help us to overcome it just like He did. (Hebrews 4:15 NIV) '15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.'
My Thoughts:
As Christians, we should be overjoyed that we have this promise from God. We may be dealing with some temptations in our lives that may be difficult to overcome, but through prayer and following God and His Word, we will overcome our most difficult issues. Even if you have been dealing with a specific temptation for years, the moment you truly bring God into the picture is the moment you are on the road to overcoming it. So don't give up, don't give in, and trust in God and His process. You will be surprised at the new heights the Lord can take you to when you give your all.
Challenge:
Challenge yourself to pray and read God's Word on a daily basis. As you start to understand it, start acting out on what it says. Then you will truly see the blessing of the Word of God in your life.
Prayer:
Ask your Heavenly Father to help you to understand His Word and give you the wisdom and understanding needed to act upon it.
